What teapots would be most suitable for deep steamed sencha, while still being useful for light steamed sencha and gyokuro?
This is our recommendation.
We recommend Tokoname red clay teapot.
Our red clay teapots are made of fine clay.
Any red clay teapots at our shop are OK.
When brewing Gyokuro, we use smaller teapot, usually less than 200 ml, sometimes much smaller.
Because Gyokuro is to enjoy richness of umami of tea, brew and enjoy only small amount a time.
Fukamushi tea, tea leaves are smaller piece, smaller mesh of filters (teapot bulit-in filter) are preferable. Any teapots at our shop are OK, most of them can do with Fukamushi tea. (All of our teapots have ceramic filter – no stainless filter)
If you tilt a teapot slowly when pouring, tea leaves do not cover a filter, leaves stay under/below a filter. No need to care so much about size of hole of filter in that case.
If you brew some types of tea leaves such as Sencha, Fukamushi sencha, Gyokuro.. you may enjoy watching status and beauty of leaves in the teapot. In that case, wide opening of teapot (larger lid) will be easy to watching leaves inside.
And black teapot shows green tea leaves very vividly.

In general, Tokoname teapot can do well with green tea.
