Togen(陶元) was a Japan Tokoname ceramic artist born in 1939, who passed away a few years ago. He was dedicated to creating refined teaware using authentic red clay of exceptional quality. The clay he used was personally sourced by his brother, who excavated and prepared it for Togen’s work.

Togen took great pride in this clay and was deeply committed to making the most of its natural qualities. His works are known for their remarkably smooth, refined texture and quiet elegance, allowing the inherent beauty of the clay to be felt directly in the hand.

Rather than producing teapots, Togen focused on shiboridashi, tea leaf canister, tea cups.. etc. His pieces reflect a sincere respect for materials and a restrained aesthetic.
