A Guest From Hungary

We had the pleasure of hosting Otto and his mother, who are involved in producing films and documentaries in Hungary, Sweden, and the UK.

As this was their first visit to Japan, we served them green tea and hojicha without any explanation. They were particularly impressed by the hojicha, and were amazed by the flavor of Kaga Bocha.

We then took the opportunity to explain the history and background of Japanese hojicha and Kaga Bocha in detail.

Since they enjoyed it so much, we decided to give them some tea leaves to practice brewing themselves. We also demonstrated how to make cold-brewed tea. We hope that when they return to their home countries, they will enjoy happy tea times with the tea they took with them.

Although Otto’s mother is more of a coffee person, she also enjoyed a lot of tea. Her favorite turned out to be Korean yuja tea. When I mentioned that I drink it every day in winter and served it to her, she was pleasantly surprised by its taste and asked for the recipe.

As it was my first time meeting someone from Hungary, we had a great conversation and enjoyed a very delightful time together.
