I tell you how to how to tie string/cord on wooden box of Japanese Teapot.

Those wooden box for teapots (ceramic art works in general)  with artist’s signature is called Tomobako.

Artist signs his/her name on lid of box. So it is treated like a certificate of the art works.

High grade Japanese teapot often be put in the wooden box with string.  However even high grade one sometimes in put in carton box. Only the box cannot tell the grade of teapot.

String on the box is called Sanada himo. It is beautifully weaved and very strong. It has long history in Japan.

Besides teapot, box and strings also has value for collection. It is good to know how to tie the string beautifully!

Here is the process. Please try!

Place the knot slightly right side from center. It easier to tie and looks beautiful.
