This red clay deep-carving teapot represents Showa era’s high class teapot. Nowadays those style of teapot is lo longer seen. Teapot shape was made with simple lines. Diameter of handle is rather big and it is
cylindrical shape than cone shape – cone shape is seen in these 20 years. Lid knob is simple shape and bigger than modern teapot. Total impression of the body is simple, plain and warm. Ukiyoe Kisokaido was carved on the teapot. At that time in Showa era, there are 2 kind of usage (purpose to buy) , one is to use, the other is for collections. These kind of deep caving is red clay deep-carving teapot represents Showa era’s high class teapot. Nowadays those style of teapot is lo longer seen.

This carving style is also typical of the era. Deeply carved, rather simple line, its impression is dynamic, powerful, it can be associated with the society/economy of Japan at that time which was making dynamism in many way. The carver Seiun also must be his 30’s ~40’s at that time. His proficiency of techniques, energy and enthusiasm are seen in lines of the carving. Those carving style are not seen any more.

This teapot is not used, kept unused in those 30-40 years. Preserved very well. Condition is very good. Very beautiful. Good clay. (written by Shiha)
